Terms and Conditions
1. Booking
The following material must accompany your enrolment: a copy of the front page of your ID book (if South African citizen) or a copy of the relevant page of your passport (if non-South African citizen). Enrolment will only be considered once the application form is completed, the correct documentation attached, and the required fees are furnished to DLC. A student’s registration for courses will serve as a binding agreement to follow the course to completion and to pay the full fees. Enrolments are deemed acceptance of the terms and conditions and agreement to abide by them. Students are obliged to give contact details, including phone number and email address. These must be correct and up to date. If contact details change we must be informed. To take a course at the Centre you must normally be aged 18 or over at the start date.
2. Payment conditions
At least 2 months of the fees must be paid in order to receive a letter of acceptance. If the duration of the course is inferior to 2 months, the fees must be paid in full in order to receive the letter of acceptance. All course fees must be paid in full before the beginning of your course.
3. Cancellation
If a student needs to cancel or postpone a lessons an email must be sent to accounts@durbanlanguage.com.
For private lessons cancelled by the student, less than 12 hours before the class, fees are due in full. If the lesson is rescheduled, with more than 12 hours notice, there will be no additional charge. For students attending class weekly, any days excused will be billed for, but a student may make up as many days as excused at the end of the study period. We cannot guarantee that we will have a teacher and a class available at the perfect level as the student at that time, however they may attend a higher or lower level.
We reserve the right to postpone or cancel a course due to lack of demand. In the event of cancellation, as opposed to postponement, all fees paid will be refunded at the discretion of Durban Language Centre, in terms of South African Law, and as per our terms and conditions.
Refunds are not is possible in the event of cancellation after arrival, or after a no-show of the participant. No refund is given if the student is asked to leave due to unsatisfactory attendance or performance, or fails a course.
A cancellation fee may be deducted from fees paid to cover the cost of administration and local and international banking charges, as well as any time costs incurred by our staff.
For the Cambridge CELTA, due to the cost, and logisitics involved, we reserve the right to refund:
100% refund, less an admin fee for courses cancelled with 1 months notice
75% refund, less an admin fee for courses cancelled within 2 weeks
50% refund, less an admin fee for courses cancelled within 1 week
25% refund for courses cancelled within 3 days of the start of the course
Refunds will be paid monthly to the account from which the funds were originally transferred as a monthly ammount to be determined by the directors of Durban Language Centre.
4. Public Holidays
The DLC will be closed on some national public holidays. The prices will not be made up or recovered due to the national holidays.
5. Courses with one student
Should there be only one student for a course, the student will receive private lessons. The number of lessons given will be reduced, or an additional fee of 30% may be charged at the descression of the Durban Language Centre.
6. Accommodation
The school will advise you on a variety of accommodation options. You can ask for an estimate regarding the accommodation’s fees. The school cannot guarantee that accomodation will be provided, or the cost thereof.
7. Insurance
You are not insured by the Durban Language Centre. A personal insurance is recommended.
8. Visa information
It is the responsibility of the student to arrange all applicable travel permits or visas and to have a valid passport for the whole period of study. The student may be asked to make payment prior to the issuing of the visa documentation. Acceptance letters can be provided, and South African Home Affairs issues visas for students who wish to study in Durban. The Durban Language Centre is not liable for any decision made by the department of Home Affairs.
9. Intellectual property
This website contains material which is owned by or licensed to us. This material includes, but is not limited to, the design, the layout, look, appearance and graphics. Reproduction is prohibited. We might take photographs, sound recordings or videos for use in our promotional marketing purposes. You must inform us in writing before the course starts if you do not allow us to use such images.
10. Timetable
-Full time courses DLC full-time courses run from Mondays to Fridays between 09h00 and 13h30. DLC CELTA courses run from Mondays to Fridays between 09h00 and 17h00. -Part-time courses Business English as well as Grammar and Conversation courses run for 8 weeks on Saturdays between 9h00 and 13h30.
The Part-time TEFL course runs for 12 weeks and is suitable for those who are working or studying full-time. Input sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (17:30 – 19:30). The practical teaching is assessed every second Saturday morning (9 – 11:30 am).
French courses run on Tuesdays from 17h30 to 19h30. Spanish courses run on Tuesdays from 17h30 to 19h30. Zulu courses run on Saturdays from 9h00 to 11h00. -Private lessons Private lessons can be booked during the week from 8h00 to 21h00 and on Saturdays between 8h00 and 17h00.
